Tai Chi with Dylan Bodhi Freeman Maui Community Acupuncture

Yang Style Tai Chi for Health and Mobility

Starts Sunday, July 5th, 2026 with Dylan Bodhi Freeman.

Beginners will learn the first section of the 108 Yang Style Tai Chi form. Those who continue classes regularly will have the opportunity to learn the whole form. All participants will experience a variety of energetic warm-ups, and leave with enough grasp of the movements to be able to practice at home between classes.

The exercises will be gentle and suitable for people of all experience levels. Dylan will accommodate mobility limitations and adapt exercises accordingly for those individuals.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide affordable trauma-informed acupuncture, uplift the acupuncture profession, and strengthen community among practitioners. We aim to be a trusted node in Maui’s healthcare network, offering referrals when care needs exceed our scope. Through sustainable healthcare and Chinese medicine, we help our community cultivate lasting wellness. We exist to restore dignity and belonging in healthcare for everyone.

What is "community acupuncture"?

Patients receive acupuncture treatments in a shared, open room while sitting in a reclining chair. Points are typically chosen on the arms, legs, head, and ears so patients can remain fully clothed.

Cost per treatment is a sliding scale pay-what-you-can model. No income verification is necessary.

We do not take insurance. This allows us to keep fees low, maintain flexible scheduling and treatment styles, and focus fully on your care.

The Story

Upcountry Maui had a community acupuncture clinic called Makawao Community Acupuncture for 11 years until its closure in 2021. The upcountry community has let us know that this healthcare institution is sorely missed, and MCA is excited to once again have an upcountry community acupuncture clinic.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is commonly used to treat chronic and acute body pain, stress-related symptoms, headaches and migraines, digestion, sleep, menstrual irregularities, cancer-related discomfort, and more. Many people use it as preventative medicine and part of an emotional wellness routine. Research shows that acupuncture helps modulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and support the body’s innate healing response.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the eight branches of Chinese Medicine. During a treatment, an acupuncturist uses fine sterile needles to contact any of the hundreds points along the twelve meridians in the body. This triggers the body's ability to heal. The origins of acupuncture extend back more than 3,000 years. Its potency arises from generations of careful observation and refinement. The medicine lives today thanks to the wisdom keepers who nurtured and shared their lineage. We are grateful to be students and stewards of these teachings.

POCA Community Acupuncture Network

Maui Community Acupuncture in Makawao and Wailuku Community Acupuncture are both part of the national People's Organization of Community Acupuncture.

POCA was established in 2006 in Portland, Oregon and is a member-run 501(c)(6) non-profit organization whose mission is to work cooperatively to increase accessibility to and availability of affordable group acupuncture treatments.
